Associate Counsel

The Staff Attorney plays a vital role within the Union, collaborating closely with the Executive Board president and external legal counsel. The primary responsibilities include member representation, where the attorney assists in preparing members for meetings with management, and contract administration, focusing on upholding the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement through interpretation and grievance procedures. Additionally, the Staff Attorney provides essential legal guidance to the Executive Board, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, particularly regarding labor law and the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA). They also review and draft communications, legal documents, and media content pertaining to legal matters. Their role extends to legal research and analysis, supporting arbitration and litigation efforts by assisting outside counsel, and attending various meetings and training sessions. The attorney offers continuous support to the Negotiating Committee and ensures compliance of the Political Action Committee (PAC) with regulatory requirements. Candidates for this position should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, be admitted to practice in Ohio, have at least five years of labor law experience, and demonstrate strong research, writing, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills, alongside a meticulous attention to detail.
