Intellectual Property Patent Assistant

An IP Patent Assistant supports attorneys, patent agents, and paralegals in patent prosecution and related tasks. Responsibilities include preparing, proofreading, and filing U.S. patent applications, ensuring proper formatting and accuracy of documents. The role requires managing multiple deadline-sensitive projects and adhering to jurisdiction-specific procedural guidelines. The assistant drafts and handles correspondence, memos, contracts, and forms while coordinating with attorneys on non-patent and trademark matters. Additionally, they communicate with clients domestically and internationally, providing instructions to foreign associates on non-U.S. patent matters. They work closely with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to address prosecution issues and collaborate with the firmwide IP team.

Administrative tasks include scheduling, managing appointments, overseeing incoming mail, and covering for the Docketing Specialist when needed. Other responsibilities involve reviewing attorney bills, attending training sessions, and assisting the IP team as necessary. Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in relevant computer programs, and the ability to type at least 60 words per minute. A high school diploma is required, with prior patent prosecution experience necessary. The role includes occasional lifting, standing, and bending, requiring physical stamina for extended periods.
