Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager oversees payroll operations for a 2,000+ employee organization, ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across multi-state and international payrolls. This role supervises a payroll team, providing daily direction, mentoring, and performance guidance. Key responsibilities include payroll review, reconciliation of payroll-related accounts, and resolution of employee payroll issues. The manager also partners with HR and Finance to implement process improvements and best practices, developing documentation for payroll procedures and handling tax filings, compliance checks, and audit preparation. They will prepare reports and analyses for management and handle government tax notices, wage orders, and related communications.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field, with at least five years of payroll management experience. Knowledge of payroll systems, particularly Workday, is preferred, along with strong understanding of federal, state, and international payroll regulations. A Certified Payroll Professional designation is highly valued. The Payroll Manager should demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills and be skilled in process improvement. This is a remote role with occasional in-office presence in D.C., reporting to the Director of Payroll, with a salary range of $129,000 - $182,000.
